Carbon Offsetting
As a travel service concerned with the environment we are constantly seeking reassurance from our suppliers that they operate in a responsible way. Any supplier who is not supportive of sustainable practises is not selected to offer our services.
Climate change is real and already affecting the world we live in. Extreme weather, drought, melting icecaps and the disappearance of coral reefs, are all impacts of climate change produced by CO2 emissions.
The Kyoto Agreement commits its member states to an overall 8% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2012. This target to reduce emmisions needs to be met if the severe effects of global warming are to be reduced/prevented. Nevertheless, we cannot just expect someone else to do the work. The real difference must come from individuals, governments and companies like Balearic Discovery together with clients who use our services.
We all contribute to climate change by simply living our modern day-to-day lives. This includes taking holidays, driving cars, and especially flying. There are, however ways of offsetting these effects.
Balearic Discovery is commited to offsetting as much CO2 as possible. To this end we have researched innovative services that enable individuals, households and companies to offset the 'CO2 footprint' produced by using fossil fuels.
Most airlines have some form of offsetting scheme through which one can purchase offset credits.
