What's on in the Winter The start of winter is marked by some of the largest and best known of Mallorca's agricultural fairs. The earliest ones often see people enjoying the last of the autumn sunshine, but by the end of November we will all be wrapping up warm, and there may already be snow on the peaks of the Tramuntana mountain range.
November - this month belongs to Dijous Bo, Mallorca's biggest fair, which takes place in Inca on the third Thursday in November. Those in the know visit on Wednesday evening when the streets aren't so busy. The other great fair in the north this month is in Pollensa, and takes place on the weekend before Dijous Bo. With local artesans displaying the best of their crafts, this is the ideal place to buy unique Christmas presents.
December - in 2010 the Cant de la Sibil.la was declared part of the World's Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and it can be heard across Mallorca at Mass on Christmas Eve. A haunting Medieval prophecy, it is sung unaccompanied, by a young boy or girl. One of the best places to hear the song is at Lluc. Also worth visiting in December are the convents and churches of the island where you can see exquisite and detailed Nativity scenes on display.
January - Father Christmas visits in December, but the majority of Mallorcan children still wait impatiently for the evening of 5th January when the Three Kings arrive with gifts for the good children, and coal for the naughty ones. Also in January, the feast of St Anthony is commemorated with bonfires and bawdy folk songs on the evening of 16th January - visit Sa Pobla for one of the liveliest celebrations. Finally 20th January is St Sebastian, the patron of Palma, who is honoured with live music across the city.
