Located in the central Mallorca region of Es Raiguer, about forty minutes from Palma, is the simply charming hill top village of Selva. Selva is the main village out of four that make up this council. The others are Binibona, Caimari and Moscari. About as typical as you can find, these villages are deeply Mallorcan in style, tradition and attitude. For those seeking the real Mallorca head to these places for great natural beauty and a reflection of Mallorcan life.
Located in the mountains the beaches are about a fifty minute drive from the mountain villages. Alcudia and the golden bay of Pto Pollensa. Alcudia bay, which is about 11km in length, has calm waters and is perfect for young families as the sand banks form a natural shelf for about 200 meters before swimming depth is reached. Pollensa's bay is also protected and provides a safe swimming environment for families. Alternatively head down to Palma and take in Portixol in about the same time in the other direction.
As a quiet Mallorcan village there is not a huge amount to do in Selva but if you enjoy traditional dancing this is the place to be. On a Friday afternoon the famed dance group Aires De Muntanya perform traditional Mallorcan dances to the sound of Mallorcan bagpipes and whistles. Completely different to Flamenco the heavy skirts and traditional pantaloons of the male dancers make this a great spectacle.
For a small village there are variety of places to eat. Situated just next to the church is the contemporary and stylish restaurant Es Parc. which is great for meat and trying the local wine Divins. A family run restaurant the terrace views are breathtaking across to the bay of Pollensa and back to the mountains of the Tramuntana. On the road from Inca is Cas Teuller, specialising in ostrich, this has pretty views across the almond fields of the pla. Es Forn in the square offers typical dishes and is a good place for a snack- for more information about restaurants in the area please visit www.mallorca-restaurants-121.com. Alternatively visit Inca which has a number of excellent restaurants including Dolc, next to the underground car park, which is a very trendy, minimialist modern food establishment; Can Amer a fabulous cellar restaurant serving excellent Mallorcan dishes behind the new indoor market, or Can Xesquet which serves generous portions of fresh market food each day.
