Puerto Pollensa

About a ninety minute drive from Palma, Pto Pollensa is located at the northern end of the Bay of Pollensa. Once a thriving fishing village, it now hosts a fine stretch of beach suitable for families wishing to relax and enjoy the blend of sea, sun and sand.  Whilst modernised the marina and the resort has retained much of its original charm and has  been transformed into a sea front with a fine selection of restaurants, cafes and bars to enjoy.

Beaches around Puerto Pollensa

Protected by the rugged peninsula of Formentor the bay is generally calm and provides a safe swimming environment for families. The marina provides a lovely location to stroll around and admire the many boats moored here. There are a couple of miles of golden sand with sun-beds, umbrellas, cafes and other facilities. Even in the busy months of August there is a sense of space on the beach. Alternatively explore the rocky coves of the north coast at Cala Murta, Cala Pi, Cala Boquer and Formentor Bay.

Things to do in Puerto Pollensa

Puerto Pollensa is one of the island's best locations for enjoying water based sports. Sailing, dinghy sailing, kite surfing, wind surfing, diving and sea kayaking are all available to those looking for something to do whilst on holiday. Whether you're a beginner or a practitioner looking to improve your skills Puerto Pollensa will have the facilities for you to enjoy your chosen sport. Alternatively if you enjoy the sea rent a boat and take a picnic to one of the many coves with in the bay. Things to see in Puerto Pollensa

Pto Pollensa is a fishing village that has developed into a tourist resort area which is now a thriving marina. The best way to really experience this is to take a walk along the bay, or hang out at one of the cafes on the marina and watch the world go by. For those looking for adventure take a trip to Cap De Formentor which is a dramatic peninsula where the mountain range of the Tramuntana falls into the sea to form the most eastern tip of Mallorca. Not for the vertiginous this is a simply beautiful place to watch the sun set, or on a clear day search for sister Balearic Island Menorca. Ferry services run from Pto Pollensa to the beach of Formentor four times a day.

Places to stay in Puerto Pollensa

Its popularity as a holiday destination means that Puerto Pollensa has a number of larger hotels. Our favourite of the more traditonal hotels is the Illa D'or which is right on the beach and is a classic amongst the hotels in this area. For a more relaxed and traditional property the Hostal Bahia is very good value for an enviable beach front view.

Places to eat in Puerto Pollensa

There are many places to eat in Puerto Pollensa with everything from typical Mallorcan food through to contemporary tapas being available. We recommend L'Almirant on the pine walk for tapas with a twist, or Stay right by the marina to soak up the atmosphere of port life. Situated next to the Nautica Marina La Llonja is a stylish restaurant serving Mediterranean food. Cellar Ca Vostra on the outskirts of town serves modern Mallorcan food with spectacular views over the bay and live music at the weekends. Unique features of Puerto Pollensa

One of Pollensa's most famous features is the Passeig Voramar, or the more commonly known Pine Walk. This is a mile long stretch of path way that curves around the bay beneath pine trees, alongside private villas, and has the Mediterranean gently lapping against it.  The pine walk leads round to a promontory that hosts a small fortress that is now privately owned. The views back to Pto Pollensa are beautiful and this is a great way to work up an evening appetite.
