Palma Cafes

Cafes are a central hub of Spanish and Mallorca life, here we name a few of our favourite spots where you may find us sipping a cafe cortado and tucking into a traditional P'an boli.

Grand Hotel - C/Unio

The first hotel to open in Palma is now a gallery run by La Caixa bank (banks in Mallorca tend to be co-operatives and you find they sponsor many cultural activities). The cafe which forms part of the gallery serves some of the best pastries and coffees in town and the building supposedly started the craze for art nouveau in Palma. You can see why as loving restoration has brought it back to its former glory.

Cappuccino - Plaza Reina

There are a number of Cappuccino's around but the newest located by Plaza Reina near the Palau de L'Almudaina is a good spot to stop off if you're exploring old Palma. Located on a corner with an aspect over Miro's famous egg sculpture and looking down to the Almudaina gardens the coffees, teas and excellent cakes will perk you up before you set off exploring or shopping. The free chilled fruit is a nice touch on a hot summer's day. There are a selection of Cappuccino's around Palma and all have their own style.

C'as Joan de S'Aigo - C/Can Sanc.

Tucked away down a side street this is a wonderful old traditional cafe with over 300 years of history. Feeling as if you're in someone's sitting room you can enjoy very reasonably priced coffees, teas and some off the best ensaimadas around, surrounded by memorabilia spanning decades of Mallorcan history.

Cas Solleric - Passeig Born.

This recently restored art gallery has also got a very cool cafe that offers a good place to either take a morning coffee, or enjoy a refreshing glass of something chilled at the end of the day. It's prime position on Passeig Born makes it also a key people watching spot. NB there are quite a few alterations going on in this area so in the week it may be quite noisy outside.

Cafe Lirico - Avenida Antoni Maura

A faded but rather charming cafe looks that appears to be a tourist spot from the outside but inside it's an original 1920s bar where locals pop in for a coffee, and ensaimada, or just to chat and read the paper.

S'Arc - Placa del Banc de l'oli

Situated in a quiet square, off the Placa Mayor, a seemingly non-descript door opens to this charming bar which serves an excellent mix of tasty dishes and wines in its cellar like seating area. A great place to escape the masses yet in the centre of everything.
